Edmonton and Back

In my last Posting I had filled in the details of our sister-in-laws passing in Edmonton, Alberta. We boarded a WestJet flight from Vegas on the evening of March 27th, arriving in Calgary at 11:15PM. Our son, Ross was there waiting to take us to our home in High River, arriving at 12:30AM. On the morning of the 28th, I experiencing some difficulties with my 93 Chev Pickup that we planned on using to travel to Edmonton in. Ever hear of a vehicle starting, but then being unable to shut it off, well that happened to me. The battery was dead from just sitting in my garage for 4 months while we were away, so I put the battery charger on it and charged it. It then started, but after about 15 minutes of running was unable to shut it off. Even removed the battery cable and it still run, until I opened the driver door and then it immediately died. Go figure!!! A couple of days later with Don's help we traced the problem to a faulty inactive "Command Start." Once it was removed all returned to normal, COMPUTERS @#%^*&$! , We finally changed our plans and rode to Calgary with our Daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Don, and then caught a ride with Ross again to Edmonton. We stayed on the south end of the City in a brand new "Best Western" Hotel. Larry had requested that we go out to his house for an evening visit, but we declined, given the late hour that we would have had to wait until the whole family arrived. The next morning after a continental Breakfast we went to the Funeral Home for Enid's service at 11:00AM. A slide presentation was cast on a screen at the front of the chapel, documenting Enids life from infantsy to the present. It was well done, with glimpses into her life. The service was highlighted by the eulogy presented by Larry, her husband of 47 years. We are all awed by his strength through all of this, the 24/7 vigil by her bedside for the last 2 months, the commitment to be there for her at her most time of need, and now, to be able to present such a vivid eulogy of the life and times of his beloved wife. Larry, we applaud you. After the service, a delicious lunch was served upstairs, where friends and family shared a time together in Enid's memory. Later, we returned home to High River, and Don and Shannon stayed the night with us, before heading back south to take daughter Caitlin to Lethbridge and then on to their home in Pincher Creek. We had a flight back to Las Vegas booked at 8:15AM on the 31st, so when son Ross finished his shift at Sears Warehouse at 11:00PM, he came to High River and slept for 3 hours until I roused him at 4:30AM to take us back the the airport by 6:00AM, to allow the 2 hour check in time required for an International flight. Going through security at this time was the most detailed that either of us had ever been through. Calgary has the new body scan equipment installed, so you can chose it or a body search. We chose the scan, but even so they still searched our carry on luggage in great detail. Even emptying out each compartment of our computer case, even though it had been x-rayed. We are OK with that, but commented to each other that the US sometimes critisize Canada for our lack of "Homeland Security," but this was certainly a lot more detailed than we had coming through the US Check in, in Las Vegas.
Here are a few shots that I was able to snap with Denices camera from the window on our trip down. The first few, for those of you, that are from Calgary area and Pincher Creek should recognize the mountains as we flew directly over Cowley at 30,000 ft.

The remainder are coming into Vegas
