Orlando and Epcot

Went to Epcot today
Up early and away by 8:00AM for 45 mile trip to Orlando. Again thankful to Jeep GPS for guidance to site. I'm not sure how we functioned before we had them. I guess good city maps and a good co-pilot, but this is so much easier. The one in the Jeep is very good and gives voice directions up to 2 miles before an upcoming change of highway or street. Anyway, arrived at Epcot center without incident. One of the first things that struck me was the size of the Paved Parking lot. Must have been at least a 1/4 section of absolutely flat paved area. The thousand or so cars that were already there took up only one small corner of the entire area. Entry to the site was $168 for the two of us, but that virtually covered everything, except of course, any purchases we made. All entries to rides or movies or expos were free from then on.

The Epcot symbol is the large "Golf Ball" type structure near the entrance with the Monorail track and station near by. The very first ride that you just have to take is the "Spaceship Earth". It was a travel through time, from the earth formation until the future. As with all Disney productions, it was very well done. From there we did all the countries pavilions. Epcot is fashioned around a large lake with all the countries pavilons located along the edges, probably a 2 mile walk.

We enjoyed all of them, and were especially very proud of the Canadian one, with Martin Short, as the narrator in the 360 degree theater.

Chinas was well done as well
.

Once around the lake, and now about 4:00PM, we took on another couple of rides. I went on a simulation of GMs vehicle test facilities. The cars are of course on tracks, but testing braking systems, steering, excelleration, hill climbing, and the the final race track performance was great. In actuality, on the race track we did reach over 65 MPH on a very small circular track. I'll tell you, "That is Moving". Then we went on a "Trip to Mars". I selected the "Intense" version. Four of us were strapped into a Space Ship, and each had to control some functions. I was Navigator, Denice Pilot, another girl was Commander and the other engineer. It was a short ride, probably no longer than 10 minutes, but it was INTENSE.

Blastoff, just drove you back into your seat, not sure how they could have accomplished that without actual excelleration. The whole ride was a series of excellerations, sharp cornering, and abrupt de-acceleration. By the time I got off I was just a little Woosey, and was happy to get my feet on the ground. All of a sudden, it was awfully hot and sweat was pouring off me. Fresh air felt good. Denice faired much better than me!! Now it was end of day, but naturally there is a gift shop before you leave. Denice was still feeling well enough to take that in, and we did leave some benefits to the US economy there.

We were both tired and sore from the days activities so were glad to head back to the town of Mims and the KOA campground.
